President Abdirahman Abdullahi and Israel Defence Minister Discuss Security Cooperation between the two Countries

President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi met with Israeli defence minister Israel Katz on Wednesday, the fourth day of his first state visit abroad since assuming office in December 2024.

The two government officials discussed ways to deepen and expand the security and defence cooperation between the two diplomatic allies.

The Israeli minister of defence revealed that the two nations have cooperated closely for many years according to remarks published by his office “For many years, we cooperated under the radar in a series of operations this will remain classified. Now we are determined to bring our security cooperation to new heights for the benefit of both peoples and for the benefit of stability in the region.”

Somaliland is located in the Horn of Africa right across from Yemen on the Gulf of Aden, where the Houthi terrorist group hold territory. Its a strategic location for Israel which has recently suffered attacks from the houthis.

From the Somaliland side, the meeting was also attended by the defence minister, Mohamed Yusuf Ali, Somaliland National Army chief of staff, Brigadier Gen. Niman Yusuf Osman, other senior government officials and Somaliland ambassador to Israel.

On the Israeli side, the israeli defence forces head of planing directorate, other israeli defence ministry officials and Israel’s designated ambassador to Somaliland.
